Venus, Mars Conjunction

It's said that the grass is greener where you water it, but the hard-core environmentalists have a different point of view. Why not plant indigenous species that are fine with the water that would occur naturally in a place? Metaphorically, this is the message of the Venus and Mars conjunction in nurturing (but oh-so-practical) Virgo.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). What would you regret not doing? That's the kind of thing on your mind now as you seize a moment of down time, determined to have something interesting to show for it in the end.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You remember a certain someone by very specific tokens, qualities and instances. These remembrances will spark thoughts and ideas for going forward in a way that honors, but doesn't repeat, the past.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Expecting too much from others is a danger — really, expecting anything is. The best course that could unfold today will come from a seed of non-expectation. Let it be what it is.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Some say each one of us is born whole and it is therefore unnecessary for another person to complete the picture. If this is true, why do we need each other so much? This question will be the theme of the day.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). There are those who dive in, get dirty and learn in the process. Then there are those who, quite simply, won't and don't. Status quo seems an important balance for them to keep.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is a dream, today is alive in the middle and so are you. Your mood will swing from methodical to whimsical, assisting your efforts to make the most of your moments.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Take charge and control what you can. Bonus points if you can manage this without making anybody mad. After asserting and applying yourself to the best of your ability, dust off your hands and enjoy the ride.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You've grown way past the overly simplistic, black-and-white rules of the past. Why ponder the gray areas of life when there are so many more vivid and interesting hues to get involved with?

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Multitasking will lead to diminished productivity at best — and accidents at worst. Decide what you want to accomplish and give it your full attention. By the end of the day you'll have accomplished something of note.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Don't be too hard on yourself. What you see as a horrible shortcoming might be seen by someone else as a point of interest, a relatable vulnerability or even a quirky attraction.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Should you end the situation just because it's less than ideal? That would be a bold move. If you don't end it, you might improve on things. If you do, new opportunities will rush to fill the void.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Gratitude is the cornerstone of abundance. Bonus: There is nothing contrived about your gratefulness for life's blessings big and small. Your heart opens a little more with every "thank you" that passes your lips.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Nov. 2). You will be massively ambitious from now through the end of the year, and this push of productivity will give you something important to cash in at the end of January. The good will you've been cultivating in a business relationship will culminate in February's deal. May is your chance at a rare prize. Taurus and Aries adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 3, 49, 2, 15 and 48.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS: "I've been seeing my boss secretly for over three months, and we recently got into an argument after he said he wasn't ready for a relationship. I told him I thought we should end it. I know seeing him is a bad idea, yet I still care for him. I'm a Taurus (May 3, 1981) and he's a Leo (Aug. 18, 1961). Is there any hope?"

I'm surprised your affair lasted this long. Taurus women are not rainy-day women, after all. Your sign is noted for qualities of honesty, dependability and loyalty. Keeping secrets just won't work for you in the long run, as they compromise the very values you represent and cause you heartache. You did make the right choice. Yet I don't think this is over, if not with this person with another sexual but unavailable man. Chiron-joined-Venus in your chart suggests there's a childhood wound in need of healing through your adult relationships. Deep-seated feelings of unworthiness can be turned around by making positive choices in your love life. You deserve to be loved in the way you want to be loved. Commitment, fidelity, honesty — these are all reasonable requests.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: K.D. Lang has recently been deemed by the Zen community an "instrument of the dharma" helping to soften and open the human heart. Indeed many who have heard the crooning of this soulful Scorpio would agree. Lang was born when the sun, Mars and Neptune were in Scorpio, and the moon was in the sign of the entertainer — Leo. Mercury and Venus in Libra indicate a charming intellectual.
