Danny and His Wife; Judy and Her Husband; and Secrets

Danny and Judy were high school sweethearts who went their separate ways. Then, they reunited and had a brief affair. Now they're just friends, and so are their spouses.

Danny says: "I get along great with her husband, and now he and I email jokes back and forth. Judy and my wife also exchange girly emails, and my wife, thankfully, has never suspected a thing."

Here's what you had to say:

ALICE: I was appalled by Danny, who had a secret fling with a past love and then realized he was glad she got away the first time. Your column made it sound like what he did was merely a social faux pas and now he realizes what a gem he has in his wife. I have to tell you that I totally bought it until I got to the last paragraph about his wife being none the wiser about his affair. What a joke!

He's selfish, and I don't think he has an ounce of respect for women, and certainly not his wife. He and his high school tootsie are making a fool of her. He seems to think the end justifies the means. I wonder if tootsie's husband knows about their affair. I'll bet not.

I feel sorry for Casanova's wife. She goes to bed every night thinking she has given her heart to an honest man who truly loves, but nothing could be further from the truth. Not only has he lied to her but he is continuing to lie to her, and so is her new "best friend. I wish I knew this lady so I could tell her how she is being taken advantage of. She deserves so much better than that. Why doesn't he give her the same opportunity to re-evaluate him and their marriage that he took for himself by "fessing up" and taking responsibility for what he did? Because he's a coward, that's why. And he knows that if she knew about his betrayal, she'd kick him to the curb. Then, with no wife and no tootsie, where would he be?

LANE: Wow, Danny! You're awesome! You're the world's greatest cheater and liar. How perfectly disgusting that you betray your wife not only by sleeping around on her but also by supporting and encouraging her friendship with the very woman with whom you betrayed her. I can't help but wonder how you would feel if you were to suddenly discover that the other husband had spent some torrid days and nights in your wife's bed.

CHARLOTTE: Unconventional relationships happen. Some people live outside the box. Deal with it.

MARY: Danny should tell his wife about Judy, if nothing else for damage control. Just because he no longer has sexual feelings for Judy doesn't mean she isn't still stringing him along for whatever reason, perhaps to make her current husband jealous. That happens. Danny says he doesn't know why she contacted him again. Well, that may be why. It would be much worse for Danny and his wife if Judy were to spill the beans first.
