Solar Design

The designer says, "You can have it in any color, just as long as it's black." The original intent of the creator of a thing will influence the experience of using and owning it, but ultimately the creativity of others cannot be contained. In this stage of the Libran solar journey, expect mutations, mashups and remodels, some of them most delightful!

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You've been more ambitious in different stages of your life, but right now you hardly know what to want. Everything comes with its own problems, challenges and life-altering properties. Maybe it's OK to want nothing for a while.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). The problem of the day will be a common one, yet it's still an opportunity for you to meet with uncommonly good help and support. You'll magically find assistance that's the best fit for you.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Part of learning a lesson is deciding how you will handle similar circumstances in the future. You may not do exactly as you decide, but look forward to the test. You're homing in on the new you.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). There's something you want to forget, but it's not going to go away by your just willing it so. Instead, you need a replacement thought or action to gravitate toward. That will start the change.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Young children tend to react to events as though each state of things were the only way they will be forevermore. Of course, every state is temporary. Knowing this is one way to get past it with more grace.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). It is foolish to make decisions based solely on logic and intellect. Feelings have real-world effects that are often more impactful than any intellectual reality.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). The tendency to ruminate on an idea may very well be related to biochemistry and not in any way indicative of the actual importance, relevance or soundness of the idea.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Someone loves you deeply. Remembering this will make you feel braver, but experiencing it in real time will make you feel more powerful — much bigger than the problem at hand.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). The internet is filled with wonders and horrors, often on the same page. Because you can't unsee what you've seen, it's more important than ever (on a wild and wide-open kind of day like today) that you virtually play it safe.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). The psychic rules apply the same as the rules of the physical world do. If you lean toward things you don't have, you'll topple. The way to attainment is to stand straight, open your arms and invite life in.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You're so creative that it's easy for you to construct in your fantasy life a beautiful future you'd like to participate in. But instead of looking wistfully into the future, make now special by honoring all you have.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). If the other person leaves, hangs up or in any way ends the interaction before you give the signals, don't take offense — nor should you take chase. It's a test of your confidence. Stand strong and you'll be impressive.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Oct. 1). Your kindness will be repaid immediately by the feeling of goodness inside you, and then later there will be an interest payment you can use to cover future acts of generosity. A bonus in November: an award or the sale of something you'll hardly miss. Romantic impulses send you on a journey in January. Capricorn and Scorpio adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 6, 12, 30, 44 and 27.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: The harvest moon — the first full moon after the sun's crossing into Libra — happens Oct. 5, a reminder of our interdependence and the importance of relationships. But the square of Venus and Saturn that is coming together urges us not to overvalue the importance of fitting in.

We live in a time of rapid changes for civilization — changes that happen much faster than our biology can keep up with. We still have cave man urges and solutions in a world where many of those impulses hurt us instead of help us. One of those holdout traits from the cave days is the obsessive need to fit in and be wholly accepted by the tribe (the consequence of not fitting in being imminent death, as it was very difficult for a cave man to make it in the wild without a tribe).

As humans, we share many proclivities, preconditions and collective insanities. So when you're going along with the prevailing culture and customary behaviors this week and you're suddenly struck by the idea that "Hey, this makes no sense! It's not even right!", know that you're in dangerous territory. But if you're not brave about it — if you don't give voice to your realizations and concerns or act in a way to draw attention to or maybe even remedy the problem — you're missing the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of your race.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: "Tulip Fever," the epic historical love story about the tulip craze of 17th-century Amsterdam, is perhaps not the screen one would expect to find the likes of "Hangover" star Zach Galifianakis on (across from Dame Judi Dench, no less!), but bringing unexpected kinds of delight is just one of the many specialties of this Libra artist. Galifianakis was born when the sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus were all in Libra, the sign of art and aesthetics.
