Equinox

The fall equinox is a sacred hinge of the year, when day and night share equal measure and the veil shimmers with balance. Ancients feasted, kindled fires and whispered thanks for the harvest. Druids stood among stone circles, Celts gathered for Mabon, and in Far East temples, the equinox marked the passage of souls. Pause to honor what has ripened, and bless what is yet to come.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Greater social awareness will set you apart from the amateurs. You aim to listen, find out what the need really is and serve it well. At work it's called professionalism, and in relationships it's called the reason you're their favorite.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Reciprocity won't come in the form of a one-to-one, equal exchange, but still, justice will prevail. You'll receive your end of the bargain in an unexpected way and from a surprising direction, and this will be better than anything you expected.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You've been generous with others, rallying and executing when they needed you most. Now the energy shifts back toward you, and this goodness that lands in your path will affirm you're as deserving as any you serve.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Keep track of your life, especially in photos or a journal. Small personal details, like the view from your window, a snip of conversation or your lunch, will be very meaningful to Future You. These are the good old days.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). What matters most can't be measured. Invisible forces like timing, trust, intuition, emotions, reputation, faith or even subtle energies in a room will exert sway over your scene. You'll be successful because you're attuned to what others overlook.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Your knack for presentation earns points. Whether it's in your attention to detail, the irresistible packaging or your honest enthusiasm, you'll bring the wow factor and will find immediate buyers for whatever you're selling.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Luck follows you in subtle ways, like finding the excellent parking spot, bringing you into the fortuitous coincidence or free food. Others may call it chance, but you know it's connection.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You can be proud of your endurance in a relationship and mourn what it cost you. You can ache over being "trapped" in certain work and take pride in being entrusted with it. You can cherish your friendships and crave solitude.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Love doesn't always arrive in declarations. If you've come to doubt those "shout it from the mountain top" moments, you probably prefer to learn someone's love through the patience they show you, or the boundaries they respect.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). It's OK to let someone else take the wheel for a while. Whether in conversation or projects, romance or actual driving, you'll find the perspective you need right now is from the passenger side.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Back to basics: Are you tired, hungry or lacking in emotional support? The easiest way to attract good fortune is to tend to these matters first, because left unattended, they increase the gravitational pull of bad choices. PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). The urge to impress people feels uncomfortable because it turns too much consciousness toward the self, which tends to bring on an anxious and performative vibe. On the other hand, it's just a sign that you're in the game, and you care.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Sept. 22). Welcome to your Year of Serendipity. Dumb luck finds you in elevators, cafes and inboxes — fortune arrives with casual charm, cash and occasionally with the kind of emotional connection that feels fated and proves sturdily long-term. More highlights: A flirtation turns into a saga, a stunning upgrade of your domestic life and an adventurous reunion. Aquarius and Virgo adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 5, 13, 20, 44 and 9.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Joan Jett has had a hot stadium summer touring with her band the Blackhearts and selling out shows with fellow headliner Billy Idol, then a Vegas residency, and back on the road — yet this iconic Virgo insists she's never worked a day in her life because, true to her anthem's promise, she loves rock 'n' roll. Her legend keeps growing as she proves again and again that the rebel spirit only gets stronger with time. Look for Jett's documentary, "Bad Reputation."
