The longer you live, the more people you lose. This week, the soap world lost two major stars: Patrick Horgan, 92, and Michael Tylo, 72.
Horgan was a daytime star who always played a gentleman with an edge. He is survived by his wife, Susan Bedsow-Horgan, who also served as his producer.
I first spotted Tylo when he was having PDA to the 10th power at an Emmy after-party. It was pretty darn awkward. I got to know Tylo through his mother; she lived in Detroit when I was doing TV there. They adored each other. When his marriage to Hunter Tylo ended, he relied on his mom after his visits with his three children dwindled. He was crushed when his son Mickey drowned in a swimming pool. He remarried and has a daughter with that marriage.
Tylo usually played Dudley Do-Right with a splash of swashbuckler. One of the weirdest soap opera stories involved Tylo and "Guiding Light" head writer Doug Marland. Marland received a panic call from Tylo saying he had to pick him up. He lived in New York City, and Marland in Connecticut. Marland a kind gentleman, and Tylo was his star, so of course he had to help him out. Marland and his driver sped to Manhattan. A panicked Tylo said his apartment hallway was covered in human excrement. When Marland asked how he knew it was human, Tylo said you always know. Marland said goodnight as he always started writing at 5 a.m. Awaking at noon, Tylo never mentioned the incident.
Denise Richards recently got a stunning court ruling. Her teenage daughter Sami did not like her mother's house rules: Go to school, be in by midnight — basic rules that every mother sets for their children. So, she moved out and dropped out of high school. Daddy Charlie Sheen has no rules. He says it is party time all the time. He did suggest she will get a GED, however. In court, Sheen asked the judge to stop paying child support — a request the judge granted. Once again, Sheen is "winning," and, as usual, the woman is losing.
Sean Kanan has returned to "The Bold and the Beautiful." Deacon and Sheila are about to make music, and it will not be beautiful. They are out to destroy Steffy, and instead of violins, they will play clashing cymbals.
Tyler Christopher, who has been open about his alcohol struggles, is back in Los Angeles and looking great. He thanked his fans and friends who stood beside him during his troubled times.
