NBC is considering giving the 10 p.m. hour to local programming. At one time, the nighttime TV began at 7 p.m. That change allowed local programmers to have another hour to choose which product ads, game shows and re-runs such as "I Love Lucy" filled the void. If the switch occurs, what could fill those hours? Infomercials, local talk shows ...
In a soap, even if they find a body, most characters come back from the dead. Without a body, do not cry over the loss; they will pop up. This week, the hateful Nelle is back from the dead. Her return will cause many things to happen. Most likely, Sonny and Nina's romance will end. Sonny may feel the need to protect Carly from the murderous Nelle. As for Nina, right after Nelle fell off that cliff, Nina realized Nelle was her long-lost child.
Rena Sofer, formerly Quinn on "The Bold and the Beautiful") has revealed why she left after nine years with the soap. She felt devalued and slighted. Quinn was barely on camera. She is not counting her romance with Carter. She even thought that did not play out as it should. She went to Brad Bell, the show's head honcho. He pretty much told her that her storyline would not increase. In fact, he asked her to become recurring. Sofer was furious. Not only is Sofer gorgeous but she does not take any guff. Amber Tamblyn, who played Emily on the show, shared a piece of advice: Be tough as nails and do whatever is needed to get what you need. Tamblyn did not say if Sofer took the advice.
Friday was Sofer's last episode. It is doubtful Quinn will be recast. Perhaps they will mention being with her off-camera.
My favorite story happened on "Another World." The Cory family gathered after a character's death. Dennis was the character's grandson. They did not have the budget to hire the actor who played him. Other characters were sitting on a couch. When Dennis' name would come up, the other characters would turn to his left and say, "Right, Dennis?" Dennis stayed mute.
Back to Sofer. Rumors suggest she may go to "General Hospital" and reprise her role of Brooklynite, gum-smacking Lois. I hope Sofer's axing does not mean no more Wyatt. I love the character and actor, Darin Brooks. He could interact with dad Bill and brother Liam.
Ken Corday, the guy behind "Days of Our Lives," knows fans of the show are nervous as it leaves NBC and heads to Peacock. Peacock has lowered its price to $1.99 a month. Corday points out that shows can run longer — no commercial breaks — and you can view every "Days" past episode. Want more? Peacock has a stunning array of other channels. He knows viewers may still balk because they think it will be hard to access. Corday is going to need to have Bill and Susan Hayes (Doug and Julie) give a step-by-step tutorial.
Sadly, Robert LuPone, 76, died of pancreatic cancer after a three-year struggle. He starred in the original Broadway production of "A Chorus Line." When I sat down to interview him when he was on "All My Children" he said, "Don't worry, I am nothing like my sister Patti," he laughed. Sister Patti is the big bold star of stage and screen. She also has a reputation of being difficult. She does not deny it. "To play a diva, you have to be a diva," she has said. She and her brother attended Juilliard. They performed together many times. Upon his death, she issued this statement: "My brother Bobby was a dancer unparalleled." Yes. To see how wonderful, check him out on YouTube.
