After 21 years, Dr. Phil is wrapping up his daytime talk show. It will end next year. He plans to do special programming. Recently, former producers said the head producer made life a living hell. "We were mocked, made to feel stupid and not listened to," said one source who did not want her name to be shared.
It has not been a good week for Jay Leno. He crashed and burned and lost his car show of eight years. In typical Leno fashion, he is not complaining. "I hate whiney celebrities. They have everything. If they get a hang nail they moan and groan instead of being thankful for what they have." Leno certainly has reason to complain. He suffered burns to over 60% of his body when a steam car in his garage exploded. He spent 10 days in a burn unit; the staff said he was amazing. No complaints, even though treatment is very painful. He mixed with the other patients and gave all the kids candy. His first worry was his wife, Mavis. He did not want her to hear it in a newscast. He asked the EMTs to swing by his home to let her know he was OK. Mavis stayed at his bedside for 10 days. He was feeling good enough to take a spin on a vintage motorcycle. The car crashed. His collarbone was crushed, kneecaps busted and ribs cracked. What did he do? What he always does. He did his standup the day after his accident. Next to Mavis, he loves doing standup the most. He does not need the money. He has not spent a penny of his 20 years as a host of "The Tonight Show." He lives on the money he makes as a standup. As for his CNBC show "Jay Leno's Garage," the show of eight years was canceled. Odd because it was the station's second-most popular show. He thanked the network for all the years and says he is shopping it around. When NBC cut the money his staff was making, he took over and paid them the regular salary they had been getting. He and Mavis were the first to reveal what the Taliban was doing. They slammed the idea of women having to wear burkas. What a couple.
Three "Days of Our Lives" characters are returning to Salem: Hope, Bo and Dr. Rolf. When Kristian Alfonso (Hope) left, the show was not on great terms. She was angry as the show was not paying for months the show was on hiatus. Peter Reckell (Bo) left to make music with his wife. As for Dr. Rolf, the show brought back the not so good doctor who could bring everyone back to life. So it appears Marlena, Kayla and Kate will be getting new breath in their life.
"General Hospital" turns 60 this year. The show is giving viewers a few anniversary treats. In April, Jane Elliot (Tracy) returns. This will not be a one-and-done visit. She will have a long story arc with lots of drama. The Nurses Ball is back. Not that puny revamp it has had for several years. There will be music, dancing and acting. With Lucy back in town, there will be lots of angst surrounding the event. Things are going to happen that will change lots of things in Port Charles. More of Anna and Valentin — their romance will have a bumpy road. Finally, Darin Brooks (Wyatt) will be getting plenty of airtime. The character and actor have been missed.
