Time to get your sparkle on! The party season is fast approaching, and it's your chance to shine. From sequins to shimmery silks, from flecks of gold to slivers of silver, these trends are lighting the way this holiday season. Here are 10 ways to glow:
1) Brilliant jackets. These are usually statement pieces. Stunning jackets know how to make an entrance. A jewel-toned velvet, satin or silk jacket can be a major layering piece over neutral separates. A glossy patent leather jacket is a real showoff. Pair these colorful jackets with coordinating skirts and pants for even more party pizzazz.
2) Silk blouses. A silk blouse is one of the most luxurious items you can have in your wardrobe. And when it comes to dressing for an evening out, the silk blouse can be your go-to glamour grab. Wear it unbuttoned over a slinky tank and teamed with jeans for a casual occasion; pair it with a short leather skirt and heels for a more sophisticated look.
3) Brocade dresses. The height of Old World romance, brocade is one of the most festive ways to make holiday fashion special. Look for dresses this season in fabric woven with metallic Lurex threads to add an extra elegant dimension to your outfit. Stick to shorter dresses or jackets when wearing this rich fabric. You don't want to be mistaken for the overstuffed sofa in the corner of the room.
4) Embroidered tunics. Another dramatic way to dress this holiday, embroidery gives an exotic twist to party pieces that are inspired by ethnic folkloric designs. Again, these tunics are one-of-a-kind statement looks and will add tons of personality to your wardrobe.
5) Sequin skirts. Whether it's done in all-over sequins or dotted with sequin or beaded designs, this skirt is festive for all types of events — even work. Dress yours up with knee-high suede boots and a sleek jacket or dress it down with turtlenecks and tights.
6) Metallic accessories. If you just want to add a touch of shine to your holiday wardrobe, then think shoes and handbags embellished in a shimmery fabric like the ones above — a pair of velvet pumps, a silky evening pouch purse or even brocade booties. And don't forget you can always dab on a little gold eyeshadow to gild those lashes!
7) Gold cuff bracelets. These are the arm candy of the season. No little bits of bangles here. These cuffs are chunky, sculptural and architectural. They are meant to be seen. Wear them with everything.
8) Chandelier earrings. Pick up several pairs of these drop-dead earrings in all shapes and sizes of sparkling faceted stones. You can actually plan your whole outfit around a fabulous pair of shoulder-duster earrings or stack a few ear-cuff styles for more of a trendy look.
9) Glitzy headbands. If you really want to stand out at a party, think decorative headbands that have a fairytale effect. Try hair combs decked out with gold metal flowers or clips and crowns studded with rhinestones and crystals. They're a quick, easy way to give your hairdo a new glow.
10) The big brooch. Don't be afraid to pin on the bling this holiday season. Pin brooches on your jacket lapels, or wear them on hats. Scour vintage stores or your grandmother's jewelry box. The more the merrier!
