DEAR STACY: Talking about political humor, the Smothers Brothers came up. What is the surviving Brother up to these days? — Rita S., Alpharetta, Georgia
DEAR RITA: At 80 and 77 years of age respectively, Tom and Dick Smothers are both still with us. The pair retired in 2010 after their five-decade, successful stage, recording and television careers. They're perhaps still best remembered for their "Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour," which was abruptly canceled in 1969 by network head William S. Paley after many instances of controversial material (such as singer Joan Baez' tribute to her then-husband, David Harris, for going to prison over refusing military service). Today, Dick Smothers does some corporate speaking engagements. (According to Tom, Dick is the more conservative brother.) Tom focuses on his Remick Ridge Vineyards in Kenwood, California.
DEAR STACY: I really like Chrissy Metz of "This is Us." True that she had to wear a fat suit to play the fat lady in "American Horror Story"? — Gemma_H20
DEAR GEMMA_H20: Yes, the superbly talented Metz did wear padding for her role in that series, having undergone a weight loss before signing onto the show. As she has said, this is a struggle she's been dealing with all her life — one that has included being the youngest person in her Weight Watchers group at age 11, a hospitalization at age 30, a 50-pound weight loss followed by a 100-pound gain. We will see whether she — and her character, Kate — wind up finding their way to fitness next season.
DEAR STACY: Is "Wipeout" coming back? I heard they were casting for another season. — Jason, Las Vegas
DEAR JASON: There has been no announcement about a return of the popular outsized obstacle course competition show that left ABC in 2014. Perhaps someone was referring to casting for one of the many international spinoffs.
DEAR STACY: I was stunned to hear that Erin Moran of "Happy Days" had died. Did she leave a family? — P.D.B., Portland, Oregon
DEAR P.D.B.: Moran, who died of throat cancer at age 56 in April, left husband Steve Fleischmann.
