Valentine's Day is coming up next week — causing sweet dreams for some, anxiety for others, and, for many, the urge to duck and cover. Yes, the day of romance is a day of extremes — as these best and worst Valentine's Day memories from famous folk show. Read 'em and, well, you just might feel better about your own love life.

Bob Harper, "The Biggest Loser": "My worst Valentine's Day was when I was in Australia, working, sitting in a bar, having a drink by myself thinking 'Oh my God, this has got to be the saddest Valentine's Day ever. All I do is work.'"

Audra McDonald, Broadway legend and "Sound of Music Live" Mother Superior: "I have a best memory. My daughter was born on Valentine's Day. It was a very hard and long day for me, but it was well worth the wait."

Kathy Griffin, hosting AARP's "13th Annual Movies for Grownups" on Monday, Feb. 10: "The worst is when you're alone and lonely and no one will give you a valentine. I've had a few of those. The most pathetic times were when I had to buy my own valentines. One of my nicest valentines: A guy made me dinner, a nice romantic dinner at my house and gave me flowers. I liked that."

Emily Osment, ABC Family's forthcoming "Young & Hungry," formerly "Hannah Montana": "When I was in seventh grade, I forgot it was Valentine's Day and I went to school dressed in all black and everybody thought something was wrong with me. So I borrowed a pink necklace from a friend to try and save the day."

Elisabeth Moss, "Mad Men": "The worst thing for me is to be with somebody that I don't want to be with on Valentine's Day. I would rather be completely by myself than just spend it with somebody just because it's Valentine's Day. You should be with someone that is right or don't be with anyone at all. It gets so hyped up into boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife, but it's all about the people you love. I'm the one person in the world who enjoys Valentine's Day even if I'm single. One Valentine's Day I got together with some girlfriends who were also single and that might have been the best Valentine's Day ever because it was truly with people I love. Enjoy it for that instead of some huge pressure to have a boyfriend."

Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad": "The thing that comes to mind was when I was in college I had gone a couple of dates with this girl and it was time to move it up to the next notch to being a little more serious. I really wanted to impress her. My stepfather at the time was the manager of a restaurant and he told me, 'Well, we can impress her.' He told me a specific wine to order and what year. So he brought the wine to the table and I tasted it and I went, 'Um, I don't know, this doesn't taste right.' He said, 'Well, it's exactly what you ordered.' Then he looked at the bottle and said, 'Oh, I'm so sorry,' and he pointed that it was a year off. He goes back and gets a new bottle with the correct year and pours it and I go, 'Oh, yes, that's right.' But for some reason she wasn't as impressed with that move as I thought she would be, so I was like, 'Eh, it's not going to work.'"

Bob Newhart (who married wife Virginia in 1964): "My worst Valentine's Day is probably this year, if I don't remember to get a card. So thanks for reminding me."

Reba McEntire: "Narvel (Blackstock, her husband/manager) and I had just bought a place in Nashville. It had underbrush and a lot of thicket that needed to be cleared out and Narvel was thinking he couldn't wait to get in there and start clearing. On Valentine's Day he got me this beautiful tennis bracelet — and I got him a chainsaw. He's the romantic and I'm the practical one."

Michael Emerson, "Person of Interest": "I'm a great procrastinator, and I remember a couple of quite desperate Valentine's Days where I hadn't gotten it together early enough and I'm trying to buy a gift and set up a dinner reservation on the day of, and you know that's really a hard thing to do at the last minute. So I have sweat blood and cursed myself a couple of times."

Niecy Nash, "The Soul Man": "I think my best Valentine's was moving beyond romantic love and being able to celebrate it with my children, showing them how to love on each other."

Vincent Martella,"Phineas and Ferb" and "The Walking Dead": "You know how they have the boxes in elementary school for Valentine's Day, usually with little hearts in them? When I was about in the third grade got, I got a huge Valentine's gift of candy in my box. I don't even know how they got that thing in my box, but it surprised me and I never even found out who it came from."

Drew Carey: "The Price is Right": One of the most romantic moments he can recall happened the night he came home and his girlfriend, Nicole Jaracz had strewn

rose petals all over the living room floor and on the stairs leading to the bedroom. "And there were candles everywhere. I walked into the bedroom and she was

there on the rose petal-covered bed in a beautiful negligee, very sexy, absolutely beautiful. I thought, 'Nuts! Now what am I going to have to do to outdo her?"

He also advised: "Don't wait for Valentine's Day to express your feelings — it's nothing but a commercial vehicle dreamed up by card companies."

Sydney Tamiia Poitier, "Chicago PD" and daughter of legendary actor Sidney Poitier: "I usually end up with guys who don't believe in this corporate day of romance, but I've been lucky that they celebrate stuff all year long. But every year since I was about 12, I've gotten a single red rose from a secret admirer — who is my dad. He refuses to admit it's him, but it's him."
