Alexander Claud Cockburn was an Irish American political journalist and writer. Cockburn was brought up by British parents in Ireland but had lived and worked in the United States since 1972. Together with Jeffrey St. Clair, he edited the political newsletter CounterPunch, authored over 20 books and wrote two columns, one for The Week in London, syndicated by Creators, and another, "Beat the Devil", for The Nation.
As a writer Cockburn was a lifelong leftist and was one of the very few journalists in the US to identify openly as a Marxist, socialist, and in later years, an anarchist.
